Working Principle

Description

The TEMT6000 Ambient Light Sensor operates like a transistor where the greater the incoming light, the higher the analog voltage on the signal pin. It measures the illuminance of its surroundings, which is the brightness measured in lux (lx), often denoted Ev. The sensor's response increases with brighter light and decreases with less light, mimicking the human eye's response to light.

Sensor Types

Ambient Light Sensor

Dos And Donts

Donts

  • Exceed Voltage Rating: Do not exceed the voltage rating of 6V to prevent damage to the sensor.,
  • Block Light To Sensor: Avoid placing any objects directly in front of the sensor that might block light and affect its readings.

Dos

  • Use Within Voltage Limits: Operate the sensor within the recommended voltage range of 3.3V to 5V to ensure proper functionality.,
  • Consider Angle Of Sensitivity: Install the sensor considering its wide angle of half sensitivity (±60°) to capture ambient light effectively.
Limits

Angle Of Sensitivity

  • Half Angle: ±60°

Voltage

  • Maximum: 6V,
  • Operating Range: 3.3V to 5V
How To Connect

Power Connections

  • Description: Connect the sensor's power pin to a 3.3V or 5V supply. Ensure that the power supply does not exceed 6V.

Signal Connection

  • Description: Connect the signal pin to an analog input of a microcontroller to read the voltage variation corresponding to light intensity.
