Working Principle

Description

The MG811 CO2 Sensor measures gaseous carbon dioxide levels by monitoring the amount of infrared (IR) radiation absorbed by carbon dioxide molecules. It uses a Metal Oxide Sensor that requires heating to separate CO2 from the air.

Dos And Donts

Donts

  • Expose To Extreme Conditions: Avoid exposing the sensor to extreme environmental conditions that could damage the sensor or affect its readings.,
  • Overload Power Supply: Do not supply more than the recommended voltage of 6V to prevent damage to the sensor.

Dos

  • Use Correct Voltage: Ensure to supply the sensor with a 6V power source, such as a 4 AA battery holder.,
  • Calibrate The Sensor: Adjust the onboard potentiometer to set the digital output threshold for accurate detection levels.,
  • Check Compatibility: Verify compatibility with microcontrollers like Arduino and Raspberry Pi, and use an Analog to Digital Converter Chip for Raspberry Pi.
Limits

Environmental

  • Temperature Range: Specific range not provided, but avoid extreme temperatures.

Voltage

  • Maximum: 6V
How To Connect

Arduino Connection

  • Vcc: Connect to 6V power supply.,
  • Aout: Connect to an analog input pin on Arduino to read CO2 levels.,
  • Dout: Connect to a digital pin on Arduino; goes HIGH when CO2 level crosses the threshold set by the potentiometer.,
  • Gnd: Connect to the ground on Arduino.

Lcd Display Connection

  • Description: Connect the LCD display to Arduino to display the CO2 levels read from the AOUT pin of the sensor.
